Are wall lights old fashioned?
While a popular light for many decades, wall lights still remain a stylish and practical lighting option when homeowners need to save space. They’re also available in a number of modern finishes.
How high should wall lights be?
As a general rule of thumb, wall lights should be installed between 5 and 5.5 feet (152-170cm) from the floor.
How do you fit wall lights?
Fitting wall lights is quick and simple with the right tools and know-how. All you need to do is:
- Switch off the power to the circuit you’re working on at the fuse box. We recommend using a voltage tester to make sure the power is completely off.
- Mount the light bracket to the junction box in the wall.
- Connect the light’s wires to your house wiring, making sure you’re connecting black to black (hot), white to white (neutral) and green/bare copper to the ground wire. You should then use wire nuts to secure the connections.
- Install your fixture by tucking the wires into the junction box with care and then screwing the light casing onto the bracket.
- Turn back on the power and test your new light.
